Suresh Prabhu’s Indian Railways launches week-long drive to showcase achievements
New Delhi: Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu led Indian Railways will launch week long celebrations ‘ Rail Humsafar Saptaah’ from today to highlight its achievements during the last two years.
Each day of the week will focus on a particular theme and will be observed as Swachchta Diwas, Satkar Diwas, Sewa Diwas, Satarkata Diwas, Saamanjasya Diwas, Sanyojan Diwas and Sanchaar Diwas.
Minister of Railways Suresh Prabhu has directed that all the General Managers should personally supervise various activities to be undertaken during the week.
During the last two years, a number of initiatives have been launched and significant achievements made by the Indian Railways in all spheres, especially in its responsiveness, accessibility and improvement of passenger amenities.
The week long outreach exercise is meant to highlight the achievements of the Railways during the last two years. The theme based activity will focus on one subject each day during the week and has been named accordingly as below:-
26th May, 2016 : Swachchta Diwas
27th May, 2016 : Satkar Diwas
28th May, 2016 : Sewa Diwas
29th May, 2016 : Satarkata Diwas
30th May, 2016 : Saamanjasya Diwas
31st May, 2016 : Sanyojan Diwas
1st June, 2016 : Sanchaar Diwas
Tiruvananthapuram Division launches Clean-up drive at railway stations
As part of Rail Humsafar, a week-long programme by Railways to focus on passenger amenities, the railway employees along with NSS volunteers of Government Arts College and Government Polytechnic carried out a massive cleaning exercise at the Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station on Thursday.
A photo exhibition highlighting the upkeep of coaches and tips on use of bio-toilets was held.
Feedback from passengers was collected during the exercise.
Similar programmes were held at Kollam junction, Aluva, Thrissur, Nagarcoil, Kottayam, Kanyakumari, Changanassery, Alappuzha, Varkala, Kochuveli, Thiruvalla, Chengannur, Kayamkulam, Guruvayur, Ernakulam Junction and Ernakulam.
Divisional Railway Manager Prakash Butani inaugurated the programme at the Central station. Additional Divisional Railway Manager K.S. Jain, Chief Medical Superintendent Marry Mathew and Senior Divisional Commercial Manager V.C. Sudheesh led the drive.
Cleaning campaign at Nagercoil Junction
As part of a nation-wide massive cleaning campaign by the railways, Additional Divisional Mechanical Engineer Atul Kumar Gaurav and Assistant Divisional Medical Officer Sornappan led the cleaning campaign on the first platform of Nagercoil railway junction on Thursday.
Mr. Gaurav said that the employees of all departments of the railways participated in the cleaning programme.

Salem Division begin week-long campaign at Coimbatore
The week-long nationwide Rail Humsafar Saptah campaign of the Railways to reaffirm its commitment to provide a better journey experience to the travelling public and to other stakeholders began at the Coimbatore Junction on Thursday.
Railway employees and taxi and autorickshaw drivers in the nearby stands took part in an intensive cleaning to mark Swatchtha Diwas – a day of intensive cleaning – on the first of the seven-day programme. There will be a check on the catering services provided to customers on Friday and check on passenger amenities on Saturday.
There will be an intensive ticket checking drive on Sunday, appreciation of railway staff and carrying out staff welfare activities and redressing their grievances on the next two days, before concluding it with a review of the week-long observance on June 1 and on steps to be taken for better passenger services.
