EMUs can now run between Ghaziabad and Saharanpur
Ghaziabad: Here’s good news for daily commuters to Delhi and Meerut. The entire Ghaziabad-Meerut-Saharanpur rail route has now been electrified, with the commissioning of the 113-km-long Meerut-Saharanpur section on electric traction.
The electrification of the new section was completed on March 12, following an inspection and authorisation by the commissioner of the railway safety.
“The 48-km-long Ghaziabad-Meerut rail route was electrified in December 2015 and now the single line Meerut-Saharanpur rail route has also been electrified,” Neeraj Sharma, chief public relations officer, Northern Railways. He said with 113-km-long Meerut-Saharanpur route electrified, both express and local trains will run on the entire 161km route.
“Electric trains now can run seamlessly from Delhi, Ghaziabad, Khurja towards Haridwar, Ambala, Jammu, Amritsar with reduction in journey time between 30 to 60 minutes,” he said. The cost of electrification of the route has come around Rs 275 crore.
