Provision of wheelchairs at railway stations

Please refer to this office letter no. 2006/TGIV/10/WC/103/SCoR dated 28.03.2006 (CC no. 30/2006) wherein instructions were issued to zonal railways to provide adequate number of wheel chairs at all category of stations.
Hon’ble MR, in Railway Budget 2016, has announced that all efforts will be made to ensure the availability of wheelchairs in sufficient numbers at all A-1 category stations.
Accordingly, the matter has been examined in Ministry of Railways and Board (MT) has decided that Zonal Railways may provide one wheelchair per platform and in case of island platforms one wheelchair per two platforms at all A-1 and A category stations.
Zonal Railways may review the availability and re-assess the requirement of wheel chairs at all A-1 and A category stations. Based on the assessment adequate number of wheel chairs may be provided at these stations.
General Managers may however reduce/ increase the number of wheel chairs to be provided at stations based on the passenger traffic handled at the station and assessed requirement of wheel chairs at the stations.
